Overview
The OVO x Timberland partnership was built on shared values of durability, heritage, and lived culture.
For decades, Timberland boots have existed beyond fashion. They serve as uniforms for work, winter, and everyday life across cities like New York and Toronto, shaped by environment rather than trend.
For OVO, Timberland has always been part of the landscape. The collaboration was not about reinvention, but refinement honoring silhouettes that already held meaning through material, proportion, and clarity.
Across the Field Boot and the 6 Inch Premium Boot, the work explored how function, culture, and craftsmanship can coexist without compromise.
The result was footwear built for real conditions, real communities, and real wear where heritage is not preserved behind glass, but carried forward over time.
Role & Scope
I led the creative direction and footwear design across the OVO x Timberland partnership, overseeing both silhouettes from concept through final production.
My role focused on defining design intent, guiding material selection, refining proportion and hardware, and ensuring each decision respected Timberland’s legacy while expressing OVO’s perspective through clarity rather than excess.
I worked closely with Timberland’s footwear, development, and factory teams to lead construction updates, sampling, and final execution. In addition to product, I also directed packaging and presentation to ensure a cohesive final result.

6 Inch Premium Boot
The 6 Inch Premium Boot explored a more refined expression of the icon.
While the silhouette remained untouched, focus shifted toward material, comfort, and finish. The intent was to elevate the boot without softening its weight, presence, or function.
The wheat pair was executed in premium nubuck, finished with 18k gold plated eyelets engraved with the OVO wordmark and a matching owl emblem on the tongue. The black version offered a quieter counterpart, built in smooth full grain leather with matte hardware.
A black suede collar replaced the traditional rigid leather, introducing a softer hand feel and improved comfort while adding subtle refinement. A shearling lined tongue added warmth rooted in function, drawing from the shared language of hip hop style, workwear tradition, and Canadian winter life.
Performance details supported everyday wear. A waterproof GORE-TEX lining provided protection in harsh conditions, while a Vibram outsole and Timberland’s anti fatigue footbed reinforced durability, traction, and long term comfort.
Custom OVO branded laces and secondary lace options completed the execution.

Packaging
The packaging was designed as a shared foundation for both styles, reimagining Timberland’s iconic boot box through OVO’s lens. Familiar in form, refined in execution.

Field Boot
The Field Boot has long carried meaning in New York, where colorways were often given food based nicknames that became part of the culture.
For this collaboration, that language was reinterpreted through a Toronto lens. The Beef Patty and Coco Bread reference became both color direction and cultural marker, connecting New York tradition with the influence of Toronto’s West Indian community.
The goal was elevation without disruption. Familiarity, attitude, and warmth remained intact.
The upper combined hairy suede, brushed suede, and smooth suede to create depth and a lived in feel. Hairy suede, uncommon in Timberland’s lineup at the time, was selected for how it wears over time, disguising scuffs and aging with character. The wheat tone was refined with a warmer turmeric note to add richness and dimension.
Mesh panels and the tongue were replaced with suede for a cleaner surface and reduced creasing. The collar was reworked in soft suede for comfort, offering a quieter alternative to traditional rigid leather. The midsole was unified in a single tone inspired by Italian hiking boots, reinforcing structure and clarity.
The wheat pair featured 18k gold plated hardware. The blackout version was finished with matte black hardware and produced as a friends and family edition, adding quiet rarity.
Branding remained intentional. The OVO owl appeared only on the hangtag and insole, allowing the silhouette to lead.
Function was treated as design language. An exposed GORE TEX lining and Vibram outsole marked one of the first Field Boots in decades to integrate both. The visible GORE TEX treatment referenced the industrial language of vintage work boots where function is worn with pride. The yellow Vibram mark acted as a restrained signal of craft. This approach would later become standard across Timberland’s product line and collaborations.
A city staple, refined through lived context.
Process
Ideas were developed through early mockups and refined through material exploration and sampling.
Each iteration focused on balance, durability, and how the boot would wear over time.
The goal was clarity through restraint.

Impact
The 6 Inch Premium Boot evolved beyond a single release, returning as a recurring style within OVO’s seasonal lineup. Its longevity reflected an approach grounded in function, material integrity, and real wear.
The Field Boot served as a space for exploration, using cultural specificity and material experimentation to introduce ideas that later informed Timberland’s broader product language.
Together, the work balanced continuity and progression, showing how heritage can move forward without losing its foundation.
Design Study
A continuation of the OVO x Timberland language developed beyond retail as a study in future direction.
Owned from concept through final sample, the project reinterpreted the classic 6 inch boot through layered construction, utility driven detailing, and performance focused materials.
Following internal feedback, the design evolved toward greater wearability, shifting emphasis from form to material and function.
Development included color exploration, leather texture testing, hardware refinement, and reflective nylon experimentation, supported by a GORE TEX lining and Vibram outsole.
Built as a working study to explore future application through material and performance.
