Overview
The OVO x Air Jordan 8 emerged during an ongoing creative relationship between OVO and Jordan Brand, but began differently than previous releases. This project started as a stage concept for Drake to debut at OVO Fest, designed to carry the energy and presence of a live performance while still feeling timeless beyond the moment.
Built first for the stage rather than retail, the concept resonated immediately and revealed an opportunity to expand beyond performance into a full footwear and apparel capsule that could live authentically in stores.
What began as a single sample evolved into a global release that honored the original 1993 silhouette while refining its materials, proportions, and tone through a more restrained, modern lens. It marked the first Jordan project I was trusted to guide from initial concept through final execution and shaped how I approach product and narrative building today.

Role & Responsibility
I led the product and design direction for the OVO x Air Jordan 8 from initial concept through global retail release. The project began as a performance driven idea and required translating a moment built for the stage into a cohesive footwear, apparel, and packaging capsule that could live beyond it.
I partnered closely with Jordan Brand teams across materials, proportion, hardware, sampling, and fit to modernize the silhouette while preserving its identity. In parallel, I guided the apparel direction, evolving the original flight suit concept into a refined Jordan tracksuit that supported the overall narrative.
I also directed the packaging experience, reinterpreting the original Air Jordan 8 box through OVO’s visual language to create a more elevated and unified presentation. Throughout the process, I owned communication, revisions, approvals, and alignment across OVO and Jordan Brand, ensuring clarity, intention, and cultural relevance at every stage.
Product Details
The goal for the OVO x Jordan 8 was to bring a composed, modern sensibility to one of the boldest silhouettes in the Jordan line. Balance, material choice, and tone were refined so the shoe felt elevated and confident on foot without relying on nostalgia.
Across both colorways, the original Aqua 8 paint stroke was reinterpreted into a smoother, more fluid movement through the shank and outsole. A secondary shade of gold was introduced within the graphic to add depth and dimension, softening the original expression while preserving its energy and connection to Jordan heritage.
Two signature OVO cues anchor the footwear in the brand’s retail world. The woven Welcome label behind the tongue references the greeting found at every OVO flagship, while the gold Owl on the heel mirrors the sculptures placed throughout the stores. Core Jordan Brand elements, including the red Jumpman at the tongue, ground the reinterpretation firmly within the franchise.
Black Colorway
The black pair was built around depth and restraint, with material choices intentionally informed by earlier Air Jordan silhouettes. Nubuck, suede, and tumbled leather were layered to echo the tactile language of the franchise’s early years, where texture carried as much weight as color.
Rather than relying on contrast, the material mix creates dimension and gravity. Matte finishes keep the shoe grounded, allowing texture to lead the story. The darker palette aligns naturally with OVO’s identity, resulting in a presence that feels confident, firm, and unapologetic. It carries pressure and grit, designed to feel earned rather than styled.
White Colorway
The white pair centered on clarity and ease. Smooth and tumbled leathers introduce subtle contrast while maintaining a clean, composed profile. Gold accents tie directly to OVO’s palette, bringing warmth and refinement to the overall expression.
Where the black pair carries weight and grit, the white pair moves with confidence and restraint. Designed to transition effortlessly between performance and everyday wear, it offers a lighter counterpoint that feels polished, assured, and intentionally understated. It doesn’t announce itself. It’s comfortable in its position.
Apparel Extension
The apparel began as a custom one-piece flight suit worn by Drake onstage at OVO Fest, designed to establish the visual world of the project.
For retail, that concept was translated into a two-piece tracksuit pulled directly from the Jordan Brand archives. The original Jordan 5 tracksuit was brought back for the first time in years and updated through OVO’s palette and material language. Crinkle nylon in black and white mirrored the restraint of the footwear, while gold blocking introduced movement and cohesion across the collection.
The use of both Nike and Jordan marks on a single garment was uncommon at the time and helped set a precedent for future collaborations. The result carried the energy of the stage into a wearable retail expression without losing its integrity.
